Unresonable Bank Charges

Right so i've had a bank charge for a DD that wasnt able to be collected coz there wasnt enough money in there. it transpires the company tried to collect the money early but wont pay the charge because they collected the money from that same date for 2 months and we didnt notice. (well you dont until you aint got the money for it to go through).

but i remember hearing something about bank charges over a certain amount are unreasonable and can be repaid...........does anyone know anything about this??? it would really help. this charge is £39.00 btw.

Just call them up and explain the situation, nicely.
Most of them will refund if you don't make a habit of it.
We once got £250 of charges, our own fault and I called up and said we just couldn't afford to pay them and would be in a mess next month and the month after if they insisted we got half refunded.

Hi, this is the thread about it.

Depends which bank it is as to how kind they are, Halifax have charged us lots and lots and never refunded on just a letter. However we are now (hopefully)almost at the end of the road as we have followed the advice on the CAG board and have just lodged papers at court (gulp!)

it is halifax, its only one charge, is it really worth reclaiming??

The halifax were great with us, don't kick off world war 3 by writing with that other thread just call them. I bet they refund the whole amount.

Phone the bank and explain. We amde a late credit card payment once (my fault, I forgot). Dh phoned and apologised, and they refunded the late payment fee. It's worth a call.

staceym11 · 28/09/2006 13:10

so what do i say on the phone? acctually it wasnt my fault, i have now cancelled with that company but they refuse to pay up and we just cant afford it?

Say that it wasn't the correct date. I'm assuming that there was enough money there on the correct date. Sounds like a good case to me.

staceym11 · 28/09/2006 13:27

well there will be, all DDs on my account should come out the first as dh doesnt get paid till the last fri of each month so not a garunteed date, except before end of month. company tried to take it out on the 25th, hence no money.

Phone the bank. It's a mistake and you shouldn't have to pay anything. Phone NOW!

staceym11 · 28/09/2006 13:38

haha, have phoned and had the charge reversed as a goodwill gesture!! thank you for the advice, apparantly they wont do this again but i dont plan on getting charged again. have already moved all DDs over to the account with the overdraft!!
