I'm an idiot.

Just got a letter from the council tax people saying I was in arrears and have to pay within the next 7 days blah de blah.

Checked my online banking and I paid the tax credit people instead of the council tax in error (next ones down in my list).

I have paid the council tax the money but boy am I having fun trying to get the tax credit people to sort out who needs or can to pay me back.

At least one of them was able to find the payment but none of them seems able to pay me back MY money that went to them by mistake. I am now awaiting the legendary telephone call back - arf arf

Now I must admit that it is probably rare for idiots (that's me) just to send them money for no reason but there must be someone somewhere in there that can pay me MY money.

I am composing a letter to send asking for my money back. What timescale should I give them for a response/repayment? Should I go for 14 days or 30?

I hope I have given someone a laugh today anyway.

I hope they get back to you soon K.

If it's any consolation I'll tell you my story, and hopefully give you a laugh.

So it's 11.25pm last night. I'm alseep, and I thought DH was. He sits bolt upright in bed and says "Oh c**p I haven't paid the gas bill, I'll go do it on line now."

I fell asleep, and it was only this morning he told me he'd logged on, put the amount in to pay, clicked pay and nothing had happened. No acknowledgement on screen or by email. So he did it again, and again. It then transpired he'd only gone and paid them £200, instead of the £67.00. He now has to ring them today and ask for his money back!

Really sorry can't help you with your situation, I'm pretty sure they'll be alright about it and give you your money back. Best of Luck. x
