Converting Euros to £

TeamEponine · 29/09/2014 08:00

I've been given 500 euros by a relative and I would like to convert these into £. Searching online only seems to pull up the best offers for exchanging in the other direction.

Does anyone have any hints and tips for how/where I can change the cash without losing too much on it?

Thanks!

Pay them into your bank account ? There will be some commission.

I've looked at my bank's website and they only mention buying foreign currency though. It would be fab if they would change it!

I'd also like to be able to check the exchange rate in advance to try to get the best deal possible as I get the feeling that exchanging into £ can be more variable and costly than the other way around?

Rate will change each day. tbh I don't think it will vary very much anyway.

it is counted as foreign currency as far as the bank is concerned. The post office also buy back currency as do other foreign exchange places on the high street. Post Office is offering 1.45 buy back rate

All banks, also the Post Office, travel agents etc. will buy foreign currency from you. There isn't much difference in the rates from place to place, some offer a slightly better rate but then charge a higher commission, so it is swings and roundabouts tbh.

This tool can help you find the best available rate for the amount you want to convert travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/buy-back/
