Self Assessment Registration?

I'm a bit confused...

Deadline for registering for doing self assessment is soon.

If you've got a letter from hmrc telling you they want you to do a self assessment tax return, and you've done one on line before and got a user ID for that before, do you still have to register for the self assessment tax return?

Or do you skip that bit and move straight onto filling out a tax return?

If you have already registered for self assessment, then the log in information you have used previously should work again, when you come to complete your tax return.

The upcoming deadline you are talking about is probably 5th October. This is the registration date if you need to inform hmrc that you will need to start doing a tax return, because you have started receiving new sources of income during the year.

Basically, if you have completed a tax return online before, you don't need to register again, you can just skip to the filling out a tax return bit. Smile

I've just completed my tax return online this evening. I'd already registered to get my unique reference number so I just used my user ID to sign in and then filled in the form.

I didn't even understand half the questions so I'm hoping I've done it correctly Hmm

Okay, thanks.

Yes, the 5th October date was the one I meant.
