Can anybody tell me how to speak to a HUMAN at Barclays?

I have an online savings account (used to be with ING, got switched, not happy about that, new account has NO history - they say 'look at paper statements' but it was an ONLINE account you twunts)

Anyway - logging in requires a card, a card reader & a PIN

I have forgotten the PIN, can't find the letter, just want them to send me a new PIN. Website is useless, online chat isn't working, online helpdesk phone number asks for my telephone banking reg no (I haven't got one, it's an ONLINE account, you twunts) & goes no further. It's a fucking nightmare.

So does anyone please know a number that will work?

Is 0345 734 5345 the number you've been calling?
Have you tried the "press 0 loads of times to confuse the automated system" trick? If you do it it'll often put you through to a person because it can't work out your response.

Thanks, Germgirl

I've tried that one and 0345 600 2323

Haven't done the 0 0 0 thing, but tried not pressing anything - it eventually said it was going to put me through to an advisor but after hanging on for many long minutes I gave up.

Maybe they're having comms problems today with online chat not working either?

I was just wildly hoping there might be a secret number that would connect to someone instantly

Latest attempt is via twitter - have had one response!

'Is it the 5 digit passcode?'

I don't think it is

I'm so cross I've mislaid all the bumf, obv that's not their fault but it shouldn't be so hard to request a PIN!

go to a branch? we closed our ING account as we said we would never ever bank with Barclays

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 29/08/2014 12:01

vickibee, I wish I'd done that Sad my inertia let them take it over. Which bank did you switch to?

Another good thing with ING (apart from their genius log-in with the keypad & all account history always available), is that I was able to open supplementary accounts for the kids attached to the main one & keep track of who had what. Barclays have done the same - do you know if any other banks with online savings let you do that?

Yorkshire Building Society but the rates are poor

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 29/08/2014 18:05

Thanks, vickibee - is that online?

I don't think Barclays rates are any good anyway (haven't yet managed to find out what they are either - I do miss the Ing website Sad)

"0" and "#" alternate till you get a person
or just should "la, la, la" down the voice recognition

think mad old lady on an analogue line or an accountant on fixed fee and go for it
