How much would you pay off?

Just asking for opinions although I'm aware repaying debt is personal.

I currently owe £2000 currently sitting on a 0% credit card. The 0% period ends in 12 months.

After writing everything down, I have £350 disposable income per month. I have allowed for fuel, food, bills etc.

I'm keen to clear the debt, but unsure how much as a minimum I should pay each month.

What would you do?

If you pay £170 per month you'll clear it before the interest kicks in. You might as well do that

I would pay £150 per month as a minimum and try to pay more when possible. If you manage that you'll owe £200 or less at the end of the 12 months so will clear that with another one or two payments.

Personally, I@d pay off as much as I could each month, but then I'm ver risk adverse. I know, purely from an accounting pov, if you're not paying any interest, then the 'mathematically' sensible thing to do is to save £350 a month, earn interest on that, and then pay it all off in 11.5months time, but I would worry about using the money or something, and personally would be FAR happier without the debt.

Just make sure it is paid off by the 12 months. I'd probably do £180 but then put the rest leftover in a regular saver or at least £50 a month of it.

addictedtosugar · 26/08/2014 17:07

Absolute minimum to pay off each month is whatever the credit card says is the min payment.

I'd pay off £180/month.
Put £100/month into a savings account.
Use the remaining £70/month for things that you haven't budgeted for (kids loosing their coats on the first day of term etc), occasional treats, or the odd takeaway.

I'd put all disposable income towards the debt right away and clear it ASAP 0pcnt or not.
