Working tax credit

Just a quick one... I am currently on maternity leave and will be going back to work in April. As such for the purposes of my WTC claim I just need to tell HMRC my previous years earnings (I.e. Maternity pay) and this won't lead to them the following year when I have been back on full pay saying that I have to repay any money? Only the previous tax year is taken into account? Sorry if it's a stupid question just need to be clear when trying to work out what childcare options I have when I return to work. Tia
