insurance for a scooter

23 year old son is considering buying a scooter instead of buying a car. Does anyone know what insurance costs would be approximately? Comparison websites all ask for exact details of bike - which he hasn't got yet.

Probably easiest if he picks a model he might buy (the cc he's looking at, for example, the age of the machine/price he can pay) and use that to get a rough guide to insurance costs. Costs vary so much depending on experience, the area you live, whether it's garaged overnight etc, that no-one else can really guide you.

Thanks for the reply. Just rang for a quote today - after looking at bikes over the weekend - he was quoted 2,700!!!!!!!!! Truly ridiculous. God knows what a car would cost. Really don't know what he is going to do. His dad can't go on giving him a lift for ever!
