Critical illness cover declined

Pink700 · 29/06/2014 15:27

My dh and I are getting our first mortgage and applied for life insurance and critical illness insurance but my dh has a pre existing medical condition, he has a form of kidney disease, he has had it for 14 years but not suffered from it since 2006 he's been discharged from the hospital and only has to go to the doctors yearly to get checked he is currently in good health. Scottish widows declined him and can only give him life cover not critical illness :( i am so stressed don't know what to do does anyone know anybody that would give him critical illness insurance even if they excluded his pre existing conditions?
Thanks

Some insurance companies just rule out anything that has a particular label rather than look at the individual circumstances of the person. You might find it helpful to go through an insurance broker - call up a couple and ask if they could help you.

Hope you get there.

think twice and 3 times about critical illness cover; it is allegedly VERY difficult to get it to pay out. You may prefer to 'self-insure', i,e. put away what you would have spent on premiums. If illness strikes, you have the money, and if it doesn't you also have the money.

Agree with specialsubject about critical illness. Better off saving up instead.

Try the insurance surgery. They are great with people like this. My friend with MS got cover

HermioneWeasley · 29/06/2014 20:00

Why are you so stressed about needing critical illness cover. Lots of people don't have it

edamsavestheday · 29/06/2014 20:15

Very good point from specialist, someone (a doc) told me the same thing about private health insurance - stick the money you'd have spent on premiums in an ISA, as most policies have so many exclusions they may well refuse to pay out if you do develop something.

I think We are just goin to save as much as we can so we have money to fall back on, I think the reason I'm stressing about it is because we can't get it and I always worry that the worst is goin to happen, a mortgage is such a big commitment it's scary!
Purplecircle I look at that website but that's for life insurance not critical illness,
I've read a lot online about them not paying out :(
Thank you all for ur comments actually making me feel a lot better :)

Hi, some companies def will cover you if you haven't suffered any form within the last 5 years. I done one recently for a customer with diabetics and got agreed and they just excluded anything relating to that illness. My company offers 166 different conditions. Pm if you want any further info and name so you can go on line and do.

CocktailQueen · 29/06/2014 23:36

Go to see a financial advisor - they will have links with loads of insurance companies and will find one that will offer critical illness cover.

Pink700 · 29/06/2014 23:52

Yeah we will go talk to a broker see what they say but the man at the bank told us because Scottish widows turned us down so would everyone else :(
