If you are a BT Broadband customer it is free. You just connect with your bt email address and password. It is supposed to be very safe.

Forgot to add, if you have the signal at home it means that one of your neighbours has Bt Broadband. Just click Disconnect if you don't want to use it.

the idea is that all BT router boxes offer this as wi fi hotspots. Anyone who is a BT customer can use the fon connection when in range. People can opt out if they want. Non-BT customers can also buy access.

it is secure and uses a tiny amount of bandwidth. It logs you out every so often, no data limit but allegedly a speed limit. If you aren't a gamer you won't notice the latter.

your laptop will have settings to allow you to choose which networks to connect to, and in what order.
