Should I claim Child Benefit?

Inspired by another thread...

My salary takes me over the threshold so don't qualify for CB. I work full-time when not on ML.

I have just had DS2 (6 weeks) and therefore haven't bothered claiming but it seems there are benefits for claiming but not taking the money. Would this apply in our case given that I pay NI anyway? I claimed for DS1 before the law changed and then stopped taking payments.

Also given that Maternity Pay takes me below the threshold can I claim it while on Maternity Leave?

I would still claim. Then for if any reason you didn't work for a while the ni part is already covered, you wouldn't have to remember to do it.

Thanks, it just seems quite weird to link CB to NI / pension qualifications.
