Can you help with a quick tax query, please? :)

It's PAYE, my tax code is 10L, so I'm allowed to earn 10k before tax.

If I work overtime this month, earning 1550 less tax and NI (making 1300), but 800 the following month less NI (making 783), would I get some of the tax I've already paid back in with the 783 wages, or would I have to apply for them?

Thank you Smile

I'm assuming you mean a tax code of 1000L.

You get the tax back if your tax code is cumulative. Sometimes your payslip tells you whether that is the case. If it's non-cumulative (a.k.a 'month 1/week 1' tax code) then you need to reclaim it from HMRC. Most of the time the standard tax code in a place where you've worked for a while is cumulative but it's not always the case since HMRC tends to get tax codes wrong on a regular basis.
