Have paid insurance policy for 20 years and never claimed for anything until now.
I lost one of the most vauable things i qwned-my engagement ring.
They have offerred me 650.pounds.
My husband paid 900 ish pounds 18 years ago for it-all we have as proof is a picture of me wearing it.
I have disputed the claim as i really think its worth more.It was twice his monthly salary back then, which would equal over 3500 pounds nowadays ! Dont obviously expect anything like that but am i being unreasonable wanting a bit more ?

I claimed on a diamond which fell out of my ring. I wanted the original jewellery to put one back in (so I could be sure of the quality etc)...

My insurance firm wanted me to use their guys - and there quote was £200 less than mine, so I had to pay the extra amount.....

My ring also cost around £900 13 years ago and I would definately want more than £650....

Can't you find the original invoice etc (I still had mine) and then find a similar ring so you can have like for like etc...

Definately worth chasing IMO.... you can't get anything for £650.00....

I had a diamond fall out of a ring and my insurance co were pretty good - it took ages but they paid what the shop i originally bought it from gave as a valuation minis 10%

It took ages though and although the shops said it couldn't be repaired I had to wait ages while the insurance co. said they were trying. I didn't want a repair as the ring had a named designer and it was someone like samauls the insurance co wanted to carry out the repair. in the end I got a bit firm and said it had been X number of months and I wanted it sorted - then they paid up

Is your policy 'like for like' if not, you might have a fight to get much more out of them. I've 'misplaced' diamond earrings & pendant DH bought me for my 40th & am hoping it turns up soon or I'm going to have to claim & we've just changed insurers so they'll no doubt think we're chancers although we've never claimed before in 10 years with our previous company. Typical!

Look at your policy carefully before you call. My sister lost her antique engagement ring in the house. She thinks it got thrown away by mistake or lost down the drain She was very upset. When she called the insurance company to claim they said - had she lost the ring outside the house she would have been covered but because she says she lost in inside she was not covered

Depends on how much you had it insured for! maybe check your policy and see how much you can claim!

Thanks for your replies.I have checked policy and it says 1500.00 max.

Does it also state a max on one particular item?
