Child Tax Credits Provisional Payments?

So I gathered we have reached the end of a tax year. I am however yet to receive my tax credits renewal letter. My partner works full time and we usually receive £163 per week for 3 children. Tax credits have decided to reduce this provisionally to £93 a week! Does anyone understand how provisional payments are worked out? £70 per week loss will hit us hard.

I'm not a 100% on this but you may get a lump sum back providing the wages haven't gone up.

I got a lump sum last year as the figure they had for me was too high so it all got back dated.....which was a lovely surprise!

Ah Thank You. I don't think his wages have significantly gone up and we've still got three kids lol! Not sure where they get their calculations from. Maybe they just like to see people struggle until they are able to get a renewal in.

I'm pretty sure that they pull names and amounts out of the hat to decide who gets what!

They've done the same to us. Fortunately we can manage but it really irritates me that they just randomly do it. Plus it might be July by the time we get our renewal. Plus they didn't bloody tell us they were going to do it so it cost me money to ring the stupid helpline several times (couldn't get through!)

My renewal came in yesterday so.i just need to wait on DH's wage slip to see what he earned.

£163 a week is an awful lot ! Are you sure you've not been overpaid and now they have reduced payments. What is your household income?

carrielou2007 · 16/05/2014 21:41

If you look on last year 'a award it will tell you what your payments will in new tax year so shouldn't be a shock?? Obs this may change after your renewal.

The process seems to be different this year. They have got Dh's earnings automatically from his employe, so I haven't had to fill in a renewal form.
Maybe they are waiting for the details to come through or something.

If you are struggling to manage on the provisional payments I would give them a call.

same as pp. they got DH's wage information from his employers. meant our went down to 182 from 194. I have 3 children too but get the disability element for one Smile

163 doesnt seem like a lot as a pp said so try not to worry. tax credit depends on earnings so will vary with everyone. mine dropped a few weeks ago but only got renewal yesterday. they should send them out sooner! save people the worry.
