Hi I am trying to help a friend who has been over paid in JSA ( they were the ones who informed the DWP about this and have yet to receive a letter but want to get things together) its all to do with her DH pension that she informed them about as she was in a couples claim but they paid her full JSA anyway.

She wants to know what she will have to pay back when the times comes and wants to take off what she thinks is correct and keep the rest in the bank to pay back as soon as she gets the letter.

In order to help her she has asked me if jsa is paid over a 7 day week ie the amount divided by 7 or divided by 5 like a working week I cant find any information on line so am asking Mumsnetters if they know
thanks

Has she tried putting her details in an online benefits checker and seeing what the correct amount might be? There's one at www.turn2us.org.uk.

Another suggestion. Rather than your friend hanging back politely waiting for DWP or whoever to shift themselves and getting anxious, she should get on the phone and push for information and action.

Hi Cogito she has found its paid over 7 days so its her payment divided by 7 and yes if she doesn't get a letter by mid week she is going to phone them again but in the meantime has put it in writing with the date time and name of the person she spoke to on the phone.
