Tax Credit help needed

My child is severely disabled and was awarded the disability element of Child Tax Credit. However I had to call the tax office today and am now informed we should have been awarded the severe disability element! Child was awarded DLA higher rate care on 31-03-2009.
This has now gone for review which will take approx 6 weeks.
What I'm hoping to find out is what are the chances of getting it back paid? We worked out they owe us approx £5000!!!

I'm sure tax credits only back date 3 months, it might be different for a child that gets a disability allowance .
Hope someone that know will answer soon .

When they messed it up the first time which was a couple of years ago they backdated it 10 months but I'm not sure with this Confused

It will be paid, all disability elements are usually back paid to the date the DLA/pip payments are awarded from, although I'm honestly not sure if they will backdate to before the start of last tax year(6/4/13)

The 6 week period you mention is a referral time, basically checks are carried out to make sure you are being truthful.

I wonder how they can justify not paying it ALL back when it's their fault?
I guess time will tell, will just have to wait and see :(
