Just discovered today that I have lost my job Hmm currently get paid weekly and so will get final paycheck on friday. After that that's it. Any job that I'm likely to get would likely pay monthly and so would be unlikely to get any money until end of May! Help what do I do? I live in the middle of nowhere with rubbish transport links so am screwed every which at as my car is currently off the road. Any advice?

Hi - I didn't want your post to go unanswered.

Do you have dependants?

What financial commitments do you have? Rent/mortgage, utility etc...

Will come back tomorrow x

Truly sorry to hear you have lost your job OP.
Do you have a DH or DP who can help you until you find another job?

Do you rent or own your home? Do you have any dependents?
How long were you at this last job?

If you have no other form of income, you should at least be able to claim JSA which is £72 a week. Not much I know but it's something.

There is a web site that tells you what and how to claim benefits, I think it's - entitled to .com - hopefully someone with better knowledge will confirm/link to the right name.

In the short term, look at your kitchen cupboards and try to write a meal plan. Look on line for job adverts or the nearest job centre.

Is there any family you can ask for help for a short time?

What type of job do you do? Can you sign up with employment agencies as most will pay weekly and allow you to build up a cash buffer before getting a perm job and moving to monthly pay.

Have you been to the Job Centre to sign on?

Care work employment agencies always seem to be recruiting - they'll want a current DBS certificate and I know from friends who have done care work that some agencies are better than others. If you drive that's another advantage. Start ringing round local agencies on Tiesday and I'm sure you'll be able to get something to ride you over.

If you haven't applied for job seekers yet then do it online now - there's a waiting period (3 days?) before they start your claim and weekends count so do it obline now and they'll start your claim from Weds-ish, although it will still be a couple of weeks until the money goes in your account. If you rent you can apply for housing benefit online too in most areas - look on your council website.
