Not sure if anyone can help, but I need some advice.

I have been quite ill with MH issues for the last couple of years. Because of this I've had to cut my hours down at work so have had a reduced income. I've also not really been keeping on top of stuff at home. Money has been tight but not necessarily unmanageable and I'm just about managing to keep within the budget but with nothing left over.

Yesterday, my card was retained when I went to get money from the bank and this morning I have a letter from HSBC saying they have closed my account as of 3rd April. They say there was a letter about this but I don't seem to be able to find it. I haven't seen it and I do have everything else they have sent me over the last 6 months. It should be with that.

They also want me to arrange payment of the overdraft that was in the account. I have no idea how I am going to find that. I now have literally nothing. Last month's wages were paid into the account so have been eaten up by the overdraft as were some of my tax credits. I know at least the mobile phone bill hasn't been paid. Most of the other stuff should have been paid on the 1st.

I have no idea how to even start sorting this mess out.

you need to get some advice from someone like the CAB (can you go to a local branch tomorrow?) or stepchange who offer free financial debt advice

i am sure there are ways to deal with this

Am planning to go to CAB tomorrow. Will have to try and see if I can get off work. But not hopeful about it. Might have to beg.

Think I looked at stepchange before, a couple of months ago. I decided I could manage it on my own without having to go that far. I have literally just cut £120 of my monthly outgoings and may have found a bit extra in benefits I wasn't claiming. I could finally see a way out. Now I'm just totally fucked.

Have looked online and it doesn't look good for getting it reinstated.

You need to find out why the account was closed, have they given you a reason? Also get all your benefits and wages changed to another account ASAP so they don't get paid in again to that one!

Have changed the tax credits this morning, sending off the slip to payroll to change my wages.

As far as I can tell, it's because it's been overdrawn for so long and there isn't as much going in as there was. I think they've reviewed it and decided I'm a high risk customer they'd rather not have.

I've fought so hard to keep my job, balance my budget, get all the bills paid on time and got to the point where I'm a bit less overdrawn every month, so going in the right direction and they've just pulled the rug out from under my feet.

TBH, even if I can get them to reinstate it, I'm not sure I'd trust them. Which is a shame after 20+ years without a problem. Looking on line I can't see anyone who's got them to reverse the decision though. Even with the help of the financial ombudsman.

2 statements from my other accounts with them have arrived this morning. Looks like they've transferred the
