I thought it would be 1000L.

He pays £15 monthly pension but no company car or any benefits.

Probably because the 1000L code only came into effect yesterday (06/04/14). It should change on his next pay check.

Is there an adjustment from previous years ? I thought 944 was the full allowance for 2013-14 though.

The 'L' makes it an emergency tax code (I spoke to the tax office last week and they explained it). They only issue these until they sort a permanent one out.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/04/2014 19:18

He's been there 20 years though, it can't be emergency tax code can it?

Confused That's what the bloke in the tax office said. Have you had a look on here www.hmrc.gov.uk/incometax/tax-codes.htm

MirandaWest · 07/04/2014 19:25

Ones ending in L are normal tax codes.

MirandaWest · 07/04/2014 19:25

Although looking at the link they can be emergency ones as well. Normal ones do end in L

ShirleyFuckingKnot · 07/04/2014 19:26

No, I run the payroll at work and we're all on 1000L, I've just changed it over today after running the year end. Our next wages will be taxed at that code.

This is because there isn't married allowances anymore, and the different tax codes are usually for people with two jobs, or getting a pension and working, other in work benefits such as company cars and medical insurance can also have an effect on coding but in general most people will be on the 1000L code.

LadyMaryLikesCake · 07/04/2014 19:29

Grr, even the bloody tax office don't know what's going on! Sorry. Wine

ShirleyFuckingKnot · 07/04/2014 19:36

No, they're pretty hopeless!

L is the normal tax code and that is the correct code until the new tax year which only started yesterday. So it all sounds correct to me.

TalkinPeace · 08/04/2014 16:46

944L will be his pay on the March payroll run
the April payroll runs are for working dates after 6th April
so the earliest he could get paid on the 2014/15 allowance - even if weekly paid - is next week

monthly salaries roll over next month

944L is the standard coding for 2013/14

Scotmum83 · 13/04/2014 21:20

Mine is less than 1000L because I was undertaxed the previous year. They are taking it out this years allowance.
