Did you know you are charged for NOT using a bank account

i got a letter the other day telling me i was being taken to court because i owed the bank of scotland £360.12. i thought it was a mistake since i havent had an account with them for years. i phoned them up and was told i was being charged because i hadnt used their account. i now have 7 days to pay it and i dont know what to do

That can't be right, surely!

Oh my god that's got to be wrong surely?????? Theres been a recent campaign about bank charges (someone did a thread on it a few days ago) and how illegal they are so given the right advice you should be able to get this reversed - spk to CAB.

yeah i was told it was in the terms and conditions and i obviously hadnt read them before i signed

if you don't use credit, get a savings account instead

Had they let you know about this supposed "debt"? Is this the first you know about it?

Ask them to provide you with detail as to how this sum of money has been calculated.

Then challenge it.

Ask to see the rems and conditions that you are supposed to have signed up to - and for evidence that your attention had been drawn to them.

I very much doubt, given the recent publicity about bank charges etc, that any court is going to find in thier favour if they have both not warned you about these charges building up and have taken the draconian step of taking you to court.
