Late payment, will this affect my credit score?

A loan payment ended up being a day late due to the direct debit getting returned because there wasn't enough money in my account. Will this affect my credit rating and stop me getting a mortgage in the future?

As far as I know a payment needs to be at least one month overdue before a report of arrears would be sent to your credit file. This is to allow for situations such as yours.
