Have an idea for a buisness that I have mulled over for a few years but would really like to do something with it as I think it could possibly be successful. So how do I go about doing anything with it?

Is it an innovative idea - if so you need to protect it (not sre how tho')

If it's just your (very special) variation on an exsisting idea - then you should write down exactlhow you would do it; estimate some costing; and take it all to see someone at Buiness Link - who will help you with business plans & the bank etc

Then you reg with IR and you start.........Good luck

Who are your competition?
Where wil you source your clothes?
Where will you sell you clothes?

Would you have to give up a job to start it?
Would you need to buy loads of stock or would you do it on a "receive an order buy it from somewhere else then post it" basis?

You maynot know the answers but they are something to think about

Also VAT/tax/NI etc Business link can help you

a mate of mine did this - she went to a small business adviser at a high street bank and they gave her help preparing her business plan and eventually loaned her enough to get started.

That was for a shop though - she basically knew how to set it up and run it because she'd worked in that type of shop for years, but needed help getting the cash.

What type of thing are you planning to do?

CarolinaMao · 12/08/2006 10:50

x-posts. Are you going to sell them on the internet?

Nemo1977 · 12/08/2006 10:53

Would prefer internet as it is more accessible. In the uk nobody sells maternity clothes over a size 22 so if you buy you have to get shipped from usa. Even then there is only a limited choice of items. Would ideally like to buy in stocks of basics and then go on to design some other items. There are more and more plus size ladies getting pg [me being one who has been pg 4 times in past 3 yrs]but there is nothing for them to wear so end up with the old tracksuit bottoms and not a lot else.

Write down everything you know
Make a list of anything you don't know
Make an appointment with Business Link (google them)

Nemo, I think this is an excellent idea.I thought about it when I was pregnant at a size 22 as I was having a complete nightmare finding clothes - I really do think you can do well with this. I have just set up a web based business (in something completely different!) at the beginning of the year so am far from an expert but if I can help in anyway I would be happy to. Mine has worked much better than I ever thought it would do so I would really encourage you to have a go. Am off on holiday later but back in a week. CAT me if you'd like a hand.
