Anyone know about EMA? (Education Maintenance Allowance)

I am in Scotland and wont be working from mid March, my DS is 16 and in full time education so could be eligible for EMA. The claim form for EMA looks for evidence of income in 2012-13 tax year and a re-assessment can be asked for, for 2013-14 tax year. Neither of which helps as from next month, March 2014 I won't be earning but income for those tax years is too high to claim.

Anyway to get them to look at what I earn now? Application has to be in by end Feb, though a final deadline of end March was mentioned.
