Am I wrong to feel so ripped off by BUTLINS ??

For the first time ever I have booked a family holiday at Easter at Butlins. We are having a tough time financially at the mo (aren't we all?) and I was desperate for us to have a break together (me, DH and 2 x DS) A friend had recommended Butlins and I booked it a couple of months ago on one of their super cheap/amazing/bargain of the year special weekends. I booked the cheapest possible chalet (standard) with absolutely zero frills and apparently had squillions of pounds off as it was a very special offer. I finally paid it off today, was looking around their website and they had more 'offers' on. Surprise, surprise - they are now selling a 'Silver' room - that is the next level up of accommodation, for cheaper than I paid on the Super special weekend for the lowest of the low room :-( I feel so done over.

He's not going to stay logged on to Mumsnet. Do what he asked you to do, or you'll have absolutely no hope of getting the upgrade you want.

Fatone · 21/02/2014 17:00

Lula why would replying to his private message be any different to emailing him?

OP posts:
ShatnersBassoon · 21/02/2014 17:02

He said 'send me an email'.

Quinteszilla · 21/02/2014 17:03

Email James, the PM may go to an email address he has no business with, so no point pming him if he has asked you to email him on his direct work email.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 21/02/2014 17:03

Whats the problem with emailing him? Confused dont you want a better deal?

Ifcatshadthumbs · 21/02/2014 17:07

Well to be fair he has asked you to email him and given you the address you should use. If you choose to contact him in a different manner I don't think you can keep moaning that he hasn't responded.

Maybe he has no clue about the pm function so isn't looking out for it?

MrsHappyBee · 21/02/2014 17:08

I go on a lot of cruises and it's a real gamble whether to book the ship/itinerary/cabin you prefer, or to wait and see what's available last minute. Invariably someone at dinner takes great pleasure in telling you how little they paid.
You just have to let it go. You were happy to pay the price to get the week you wanted. Just relax and enjoy your hard earned holiday.

K8Middleton · 21/02/2014 17:08

Oh FFS stop being a martyr, email him and get it sorted.

Why is this so hard? Buck up woman!

Fatone · 21/02/2014 17:08

Sorry shatner I don't understand what the difference is? He somehow found my message on MN anyway so I assume the mention of Butlins caught his eye? therefore they must be looking at social media sites (which came as a surprise to me) He didn't give me his private email address - he gave me [email protected] I assume that stands for Social Media? I just thought I would reply to his private message on here and when I got no response I posted it on the thread. I have also said that I understand others point of view that prices go up and down etc but we (my friend and I - her family are booked in for the trip as well) felt the huge 1 off sale was misleading. Anyone booking with them won't be as daft as us now if they read this and they will understand it is only at the venue that they price match.

OP a PM means he has to log back on to MN to get it and to reply to you, but an email will go straight to him. You'd be much better off emailing him. It does sound like he genuinely wants to help Smile

Ifcatshadthumbs · 21/02/2014 17:09

Ok I guess you prefer to carry on moaning rather than getting a result. Meh.

gamerchick · 21/02/2014 17:10

just email him. I don't check the email account that I linked to mumsnet rarely.

I do think it's off that a company that makes decent coin keeps you waiting on a premium line though. Good customer service is one of the main things that keeps me loyal. It's worth more than many other things.

K8Middleton · 21/02/2014 17:10

If you won't follow the instructions you don't really deserve the discount.

G'wan... email him!! Wink

ShatnersBassoon · 21/02/2014 17:11

You don't understand the difference between doing what he said and doing something else?

It sounds as if you're determined to sulk now.

Fatone · 21/02/2014 17:17

No sulking or carrying on moaning happening here! I let it go on Thursday 20th Feb at 10am! I just didn't realised that you guys had carried on posting and thought I should answer you today. Ultimately we are paying peanuts to stay in pretty low standard accommodation for a break with our kids. I'm really not going to argue about their marketing strategies/special offers/rip off phone lines. I just wanted to raise awareness for anyone else who was thinking of booking with them on here. Job done. We will all have a lush time regardless :-)

Still- you could get more money of or an upgrade! Why not try if he's offering?

YouAreTalkingRubbish · 22/02/2014 00:01

Hope you have a good holiday anyway. I wish holiday pricing was clearer and more consistent.

Iamnotanugget · 23/02/2014 00:01

I booked through the website at a 'not to be beaten' price. The price subsequently came down by nearly £100. I phoned them and they refunded me straight away.

PicaK · 23/02/2014 21:46

He said email me and you PM'd him. That's totally different. Like saying call me on my mobile number and you ringing him on his landline. Honestly!

Just been advised by Butlins Skegness that they won't price match our holiday which was booked on site and we were guaranteed that it would not be advertised lower and if it was we would be refunded the difference, we were told that it was not accommodation specific so that if we booked a silver apartment and then a gold was offered cheaper it would still count. We originally stayed in a gold apartment but my husband has health issues and can't walk far and the apartments are a long way from everything so the advisor suggested a silver apartment would be better as they are closer to the activities. Having had our money since November 2015 we have now seen the same holiday but in a gold apartment for £200 cheaper. Customer services not interested and when I explained the situation was advised that the first advisor should have told me that the price match was for an identical holiday. Really disappointed by the lack of customer service, was about to book for summer 2017 but will spend my money elsewhere where customers are not lied to.
