Went to my account to check my balance - things are very tight atm - and discovered that I was waaaaay over my overdraft. Cue large amounts of panic and checking of online statements to discover that because I went over my account by £4.65 and then £7.70 the day before I got paid I've been charged £80 We don't get letters anymore so I had no warning and not only am I o/drawn but I've had a DD bounce as well (so more charges next month) I only get paid £380 pm so this is alot for me.

Didn't bother ringing the call centre as they are nice, but useless with anything off script. I rang the complaints department instead. Wonderful, wonderful man called Craig checked that my account is usually Ok and refunded everything, instantly. He's also cancelled the £140 I was due to be charged in September. I know abbey = corporate money grabbing bastards, but this man was such a star - he could have been totally jobsworth, technically I deserved everything I was charged, but he was kind and understanding even when I was blubbing like an prat on the phone

My hands are still shaking and I feel sick, this would have screwed us for a while. Now at least I can go out and buy some milk and bread (and then come home and drink brandy)

Oh no, never shout unless I'm in the right, and they're being arsey! Need to go and spend some of it now before he comes to his senses and takes it back

Well done for calling and sorting it - and thank god there are some decent people working in banks. I had a similar thing last Xmas - went od in one account by £2 for one day and was charged £58 in total. Got it back by writing a stiff letter.
