Through a series of misunderstandings and an invoice that wasn't quite the same as another my conservatory is twice as much as I thought it would be.

We just borrowed 10k last month to pay for it and now have to borrow 15k more - does anyone know if it's possible to have two lomas close together? The first one was just a personal loan but would be happy to make the second a homeowner one secured on the house.

I've already thrown up today at the misunderstanding. Shitting fuck.

What kind of idiot doesn't put a total figure in an estimate but puts two figures exactly the same for parts and for labour? Seems deliberately misleading to me. I would be asking your builder to propose solutions. Is was partly his fault: why should you be the only one out of pocket.

This post was by mistake. I was replying for another one and the app crashes and I finger clicked accidentally while waiting for it to refresh.

I think you need to stop the work and step back and think about what you want to do

  1. Can you get the extra money?
  2. Can you afford the extra repayments?
  3. If you'd known the price is it what you would have gone for?
  4. Are there cheaper options available?

I find it ludicrous that people would take out loans for something like a conservatory. I could understand if it easy and roof that was falling down but a conservatory.

I know I've missed the point of the thread. Sorry.

Zombie thread - although I'd love to know what LFC did in the end and how it all looks now!

My God I really feel for you! I think EddyVeddersfoxymop advice is the best. I feel this builder's quote should've been more transparent - is he not remotely embarrassed or feeling bad about the misunderstanding? I'd have hoped he'd have knocked something off for you. I guess it's a tough lesson to learn about asking for the total cost, all in. I'll certainly bear it in mind. And yes, I'm not in the habit of putting up conservatories but that does sound dear - but as people say you'll cash in when you sell. It'll all seem like a distant memory when you're enjoy a glass of something and a book in it. And I'd definitely overpay on that mortgage, whenever possible.
