hi, just wanted some advice. I am currently 34 weeks pregnant and dp and I are seriously struggling with money. We're thinking of moving out the area to somewhere cheaper, my dp could get a transfer but would mean that I would have to quit my job. would we be entitled to any financial help until I could return to work?

thanks

It all depends on what your circumstances would be post job-quitting. You wouldn't qualify for JSA, for example, but your family might qualify for tax credits if your DP's income is low enough and he works the required hours. The benefits checker at www.turn2us.org.uk might be useful for you.

You'd still get SMP for a while.

also if I do move should I tell work straight away or waitto resign so to continue to receive smp?

You aren't obliged to tell them until you are due to return . Of course it may be courteous to do so earlier and allow them to fill your job . Unless you get enhanced pay which are subject to conditions then you should be able to keep it until 39 weeks have passed.
