Am a single parent - ex-dh pays maintainance - I work 24 hours a week as a nurse - pro rata, I earn about £14 thousand per annum although would have to look up the exact amount.

Am completely bamboozled as to if there is anything I am entitled to, and if ex-dh's maintainance would be taken into account - any ideas gratefully received - don't want to send the kids up a chimney just yet!..

I don't thin maintenance is counted anymore is it?

I would have thought you were entitled to something if you're only on 14K though.

A good place to start is to run your circumstances through the benefits checker at www.turn2us.org.uk. It's not 100% but it's a pretty good guide to what you might qualify for and where to apply.

Worth having a look at Gingerbread?

There's also Advice Guide from Citizens' Advice.
