Car insurance

Sorry if this isn't the right board.

What is business cover on car insurance used for?

DH is picking up his new car tomorrow and when he contacted his insurance to change his policy the price jumped up by 20 quid a month.

He currently has it through his employer (a bank) at staff rate.

This afternoon I did a check online as to what he could get it for with other providers and it was half the price of his employers. He currently pays 30 - new car with current insurance jumped to 50 and I've found it online with vacuous companies for 26/27

He can cancel his current one free of charge (no admin fee as it's staff account)

He came home this evening and said that they had been told a while back that they have to have business cover on their policy to which I told him that if they want him to have it then they can pay the difference.

I don't see why he needs it. He uses his car to drive to work at his base branch and once in a while may be asked to work in a different branch so drives to that one instead. He's not taking customers anywhere and is basically only commuting so why might he need business cover?

He needs business cover due to occasionally working at other branches, most car insurance companies only cover you for commuting to your usual place of work not alternative locations if you don't pay the extra for business cover. Check the terms of the individual company before you change it.
