I've been paying for my ex partners employment insurance

Hi, any advice is appreciated.

I'm a head in the sand person and am trying to get myself on track financially.

I've just realised for the last 9 months I have been paying for my ex partners employment insurance. We had a joint account which his name was removed from when we split. I still use this account for paying bills etc. The insurance wasn't cancelled when his name was removed and I've been paying for it.

I've asked him for a reimbursement. He said it's not his account so not his problem.

Is there anything I can do? I can cancel the direct debit but I don't know what repercussions this may have for him as the insurance company won't discuss it with me.

The amount I've paid isn't huge but equates to a weeks wages. Is there anything I can do?

Just cancel the direct debit and tell him you've done it. Then he can contact the company and set up a new one if he wants to. It doesn't sound like you owe him much consideration if he reckons it's 'not his problem' that you are out of pocket.

I very much doubt you have any legal way to get the money back though - it's really up to you to sort out the regular payments from your own account. Not saying it's your fault, just that legally it's hard to say that it's his either.
