Hi. I'm asking this for a friend. She recently sold a mobile phone on ebay and got this email from the first buyer:

I saw your item below on ebay and i will like to buy it for my client who is on tour to west africa.

I saw that you do not ship outside your country but i will to end this transaction with you sucessfully. So mail me the total amount you will be selling the item and the shipping cost through Post Office signed f
(1st Class).

I will be paying you via my paypal account because it is fast and secured.so i will need your full name and verified paypal email address.Get back to me if you are with my offer so that i can proceed with the payment.
so here is my client Address where is going to be shipped to......

She took it off as she thought it was dodgy and relisted (I think) then this guy bought it:

Dear Seller,
I;m so glad been the winning buyer of this lovely item,i'm intrested in buying this item for my Son working with British American Tobacco in Nigeria(www.batnigeria.com). I need to get it as a matter of urgency since I have promised to get the item down to him soon.So i will be so Glad if the item can be posted by Royal Mail Registered International Delivery for Fast Delivery.I will like you to Send me your full name and address so that i can pay you via postal order
Hope to hear from you soon
GOD BLESS

Is it a coincedence that they are both fron Nigeria? They both claimed to be from the UK.
I think she is reporting them anyway, but she wondered if there was any way they were genuine?

no, if you go to the ebay boards you will see it is full of this sort of scam.

zephyrcat · 15/07/2006 22:05

DO NOT DO IT.

I had loads of these with mine and dp's phone that we were trying to sell. It is a huge rip off. Report it to ebay and they will let you relist.

They will send a fake paypal email saying that the funds have been paid but they will not put it into your account until you have given a tracking number from Royal Mail ....ie you post the phone, they disappear.

You'll find that generally by tomorrow they will be no longer registered.

Not entirely sure of the reasons behind this (DP is out and knows for sure) but I understand that it is best not to deal with buyers from Nigeria. I will find out upon his return if no one else has told you why

LeahE · 15/07/2006 22:06

Definitely a scam. No way on earth either is genuine.

southeastastra · 15/07/2006 22:06

it's a scam. report it, she can relist it for free

Squarer · 15/07/2006 22:13

ok, so everyone told you why!

Blandmum · 15/07/2006 22:19

Charlottesweb · 15/07/2006 22:23
