... Do they try again themselves in a few days, or is it up to me to pay the amount manually? I don't want to end up paying twice iyswim.

They will write and tell you, they will either....

try again in a few days.

ask you to make the payment direct

or if it is a regular amount, take out twice the amount on the next installment.
