Bank Card problems

I bank with Santander and recently have noticed when I use my card to pay it doesn't seem to show till days later. Not usually a problem but for the last 2 months its not even being shown on my available balance. which in turn leads me to believe I actually have more money than I do, and has incurred cost for unarranged over draft and then more charges for paying out when I'm out of money.

I been trying to keep a close eye on my financial situation and check my bank several times a day via app in order to do this. One minute my bank account looks good then all of a sudden a load of payments come out all at once (up to 5days ago) and then charges are placed on top.

Is this normal for this bank? Should I switch? I find it strange as usually i see balance and then available balance but some card transactions don't show at all

I think it's normal, especially if you buy things just before a weekend. What I find helps is keeping my own tab (I use software, some use spreadsheets) of what I've spent so that I know what the true balance is. I don't rely on the online or cashpoint balance.

not all transactions will come off your available balance and it is normal to take a few days to come out of your account

I've got an app called "my money". I can add a number of accounts to it then whenever I spend any money put it in as a 'transaction' and it updates my balances so I always know what is actually in my bank. It's really great for budgeting to and you can add standing orders and direct debits.
