child tax credits - do they EVER answer the phone?!?

Have tried calling 11 times since demand for overpayment recieved and have held for on 1 hr and 56 mins, I know because I've logged it. Random demand of overpayment of £76, I then get another letter today telling me that 'I have made an active decision to ignore the letter'

They are total idiot morons who waste cash on letters and not staff!

Unfortunately you are trying to contact them at the same time as tons of other people who are doing their renewals. Write to them and ask them to call you, they have done this no problem for me in the past.

I'm calling as they asked me too! They need to STAFF UP at these busier times FFS, not rocket science.

I finally got through, apparently it's from 2008, the first letter we had was last week. What did it relate too I asked? No idea she said the computer just says so. They are looking in to it and sending out a statement but I was aslo asked couldn't I just pay it anyway? Are they all metally ill?!

Can you write to them?

I find if you call them as soon as they open or just before they close. You should get through relatively easy although after being on hold for nearly 2 hours must be annoying.
