Car Insurance Quote Question

KnockMeDown · 13/06/2013 23:11

I am getting quotes on-line to insure my new car. Got a great quote from Quote Me Happy.com. But then re-read details about claims and "incidents". Both DH and I have over the past year had scrapes where we informed our insurers but did not claim. Mine actually appears on my renewal paperwork from current provider. So once I put these in, quote increases significantly. However, did an alternative quote with directine, and they only asked about claims.

So my question is; do we need to declare these, and would they know anyway? Want to do the right thing, but not be a mug and pay over the odds. Do different insurers swap info?

Thanks!

You have to send proof of your no claims discount so try would see the incidents then anyway. The concern if you don't declare them would be in the event of a claim, the insurer realises and refuses to pay out (which they have every right to do if they asked about it and you didn't declare).

Regarding direct line, I'd be tempted to call them and ask if you would need to declare it (just so that you have it on official authority, take the person's name) so that there can be no come-back if you send them your no claims discount proof and they spot it then :)

Thanks rockchick! It's just a bit crap that even if you don't claim, they put your premium up! I guess they have you by the short and curlies, but your right, it's not worth taking a risk.
