Wills - if someone dies how do you know if they have one?

Is there some sort of automatic trigger? If the deceased did not mention the whereabouts to family?

if there is a will with executors, they will contact you.

if not; search the house, contact the bank and any known solicitor. You can also ask a solicitor to advertise to all the other solicitors to see if anyone has the will.

if no luck - then the problems begin...
