I need some advice about JSA

Hi

This is going to be a bit long so I will apologise in advance. My ds has aspergers and is claiming Jsa as he really wants a job and was getting nowhere looking an his own. Started signing on in December and because of his disability he had to go one week to see a disability advisor and the next week to sign on. In march a mistake was made on his appointment card so the day and date didn't match so he missed his signing on day but went in the next day to explain, they sent him to another office the next day where he explained again. He ended up being sanctioned for a month, he appealed but has heard nothing.

His advisor has sent him to a private company to help him find work and they are very good and have helped him rewrite his cv , look for work etc he was also offered a 12 week part time course with the princes trust at the job centre so he is doing that as well.

The second week was a residential course so he informed his advisor and his disability advisor and the rep from the princes told them as well.

He went to sign on today and was told that because he didn't go to the meeting when he was on the residential week he has 24hrs to get the disability advisor to take the not off his file or they will simply stop his benefit completely.

She phoned when he was away to say she had got the message and was just letting him know that she had left the post and was sorry she hadn't got to say goodbye. He is at the college tomorrow for the princes trust .

I just don't know what to do any advice would be appreciated.

If you got to the end of this thank you

They have treated him dreadfully, and he needs a good benefits specialist. I would definitely take him to the CAB, as they would deal with all this for him and his appeal.

The trouble is that for the rest of the week he is either at the college with the princes trust or at the other company. If he doesn't turn up at either he will be sanctioned again for 3 months this time.

Oh and I work full time which is an added complication as I am supposed to give three weeks notice of any leave I want to take.

I will try to get in touch with cab tomorrow and see if I cab get an appointment

Thanks

Oh blimey. Sounds a bit 'marish. I wouldn't know what to say, other than hopefully your CAB will have a good telephone service.

Thanks Mullinsamy I spoke to CAB today who have advised me to write a letter to the jobcentre manager detailing everything obviously my DS will sign it. Make sure I get a receipt and ask for a copy of their complaints procedure. They will then help him make a formal complaint.
