how does does a personal cheque cashed in halifax bank?

as i thought it was 3 working days. i put it in on wed 22nd and thought it be today i can get cash out.

Think it's longer - I bank at Barclays / chqs paid in on monday are available Friday

It may be different now but when I used to work in a bank it used to be 3 full 'working' days, not including the day you pay it in (as the cheque has to physically be posted off into the 'clearing system' so it doesn't actually leave the banks premises until that night)

So you pay it in on a Wednesday, it takes Thurs, Fri, Mon full days (no Saturdays, even though many banks are open on Sats, the clearing system isn't.) The cheque is available to draw on sometime overnight on the Monday night.

As this weekend is a Bank Holiday you'll need to add an extra day to all this as yesterday wasn't a working day so your cheque should be available sometime tonight.

Please note I say all this as someone who hasn't worked in a bank since 1999 so it could well have changed with the new Faster Payments system etc but with you saying it doesn't seem to be available and cheques still being quite old-fashioned in their clearing systems this may be why.

I was told four working days today at the Halifax. I put a cheque in today (which they don t count). They said it'd clear on the 3rd June.
