I know this sounds silly but how safe are they - the bankers draft should be comming from either nation wide / halifax and is for a large sum of money before we hand the car over we want to be sure that everything ok money side of things.

pay it in and let it clear before handing over the car. ot even drafts are completely safe.

I used to issue these many years ago when I worked in foreign exchange and accepted one last year for sale of dh's car. Don't worry, it is a good guaranteed method of payment.

Meant to add - make sure they come to you in working hours & you can call the building society that issued the cheque as an extra guarantee.

There are definately fake bankers drafts out there. I'd be cautious.

(They aren't, by chance, offering a bankers draft for more than the price of the car, and you give them cash for the difference? Because that's definately a scam.)

no the bankers draft is for the actually cost of the car - it's being done now on wednesday in business hrs so that he can phone the issuing bank to clairfy that it's real.

thanks everyone Grin
