Getting taxes sorted and am looking at self assessment. Online deadline looms and need to get UTR before I can file.

Can I get UTR online or does this have to be done by post?

Unless you are registering as self employed it has to be done by post, using form SA1.

It can be done online ...
online.hmrc.gov.uk/registration/newbusiness/introduction
BUT they will take a while to process it.
Bearing in mind you've had since 6th April you are cutting it a bit fine.

There is another thread where the OP stated only PAYE and rental income.

It is of course possible to register online as self employed, and a UTR is issued as part of that process.
