Debenhams Store Card - late payment charge/credit file

I didn't receive last month's bill and consequently didn't pay anything. So of course I've received a late payment charge which I accept I should pay because I was late.

I rarely use the card and don't have a direct debit set up so wasn't expecting a balance to pay. The actual balance was £5.05! I feel so bloody stupid, two coffees have cost me £17 plus interest.

I've an excellent credit history and have never missed a payment before on anything else. I'm worried that this will affect my ability to get credit - if I call Santander who adminster the account and explain that I didn't get the bill will they or can they amend my credit file to remove the late payment?

I bet they will say something unhelpful like it was your responsibility to contact them if you hadn't received your bill. I'd clear off the outstanding balance and chop it up. They are the work of the devil! You can contact the credit reference agency and they will put a note on your file.

I'm so annoyed with myself! I had loads on my plate last month and it didn't even hit the radar.

If you make a note on your file does anyone look at it?

If you apply for credit they will look at it. It happens. My old credit card company were useless. They took the minimum payments by direct debit so I didn't pay too much attention to the bills. I must have gone over slightly one month though, so instead of increasing the direct debit they took the same amount, meaning I hadn't paid enough so was over the limit. The next month I was charged again for going over, and yet again they didn't increase the direct debit so I went over the limit again. This went on for months! Hmm Idiots.

Depends, for a ample next doesn't for a certain amount of time. Worst should be a late payment on your file.

I'll ring them tomorrow morning. I'm so angry with myself for not noticing that I'd not received a bill!

I can't believe it! They cancelled the charge and will let report that the late payment charge has been refunded. Smile
