I need to move. Housing benefit question...

I currently rent from my sister and am now a single mother of 2 under 4.

I have had had ongoing issues with my neighbours and need out now.

If I move to a privately rented house can I get help with the deposit or is just the rent they help with?

Thanks.

not sure may just be housing association and council- I would check though.

Here is link from Shelter about the new rules regarding under occupancy, which takes effect from April 2013

Thanks for that. Will it still count even though I am only claiming for a 2 bed but living in a 3? I wouldnt expect to claim for the extra room because it will just be a home for the mountain of toys my girls have!

no,mama2moo- you might only get paid the 2 bed rate, but you can privately rent any sized property of your choice

what pancake said and agree just be honest with landlord, the no dss thing is on most ads but i only get a top up from housing benefit and everyone has always been fine with this :)

Thanks Smile I have been upfront about the housing benefit part. I would hate to be lied to and they are fine.

But, there is a part of the form for my housing benefit that the landlord or agent has to fill out. Maybe thats no the case for all areas. That way there is no way you can lie about it.
