Energy consumer issue - paid final bill with actual reading on back in may and now have had another further bill

the company in question went to the property after we had given them the final meter reading and confirmed the meter reading and we had a bill for the period ending May this year as a final bill with actual reading, which was paid in full

Friday I received another bill for the same period with another amount on which 8 times the amount and a higher reading by a couple of thousand units Confused

I cannot get in touch with them because they are closed, but if they insist it isn't a mistake what can I do? I have had this happen before with a different company who eventually agreed it was their mistake after I got the osbudsman involved but I am sick of this crap tbh

Do you still have the final bill with the actual read on it?

Could there have been a genuine mix-up on their part? I'm just wondering if that's what led to the situation happening last time as well. Are there two meters next to each other or something?

Do you still have that final bill? Did you have an online account with them? Just wondering if you can download the previous bill so you've got it to hand when you speak to them.

First thing I would do is call my bank and make sure the direct debit mandate is not active, i.e. that there's no way they can just summon the money out of your account whilst the matter is being disputed.

Do you know who's moved in to the property? I'm just wondering if they could confirm a current reading, which is unlikely to bear any resemblance to your billed amount.

I think you've just got to approach this in a calm and factual manner. They have made an error, the original bill has been paid, they need to sort it out.

Yes I still have the previous bill and it clearly says it was an actual reading. I also had to wait until they could enter the property to confirm this reading before the final bill was issued, which they did and the final bill was then paid.

It has been 3 months since we passed over the property to the new owners

There is no meter next to the meter btw, sorry to ignore that question, it wasn't intentional. i will check my direct debits as well, thanks :)

Well, see what they say tomorrow. Broken record, broken record - this account has been paid in full and closed, you have made a mistake.

ok, thank you :)
