Theoretically we should be able to go on holiday in this country for the same as it would cost to stay at home plus petrol, but it never works out like that so i am trying to work out a reasonable budget so we still feel like we are on holiday, have a couple of treats but dont break the bank.

So any top tips for cheap holidaying, how much do most people spend?

Self-catering or B&B?

Depends what you will be doing during the time you are away. If there's lots of free things to go and explore, that's a lot cheaper than activities you have to pay for. If you are out and about each day you can theoretically take picnics out with you, and cook a meal each night if you really want to stick to a budget, maybe with a nice meal out on your last night.

We tend to "eat out" once a day only but that is often just an ice cream or a cake and coffee. We have two or three things during the week that cost and the rest is just walks / beach / free places to go. There are 4 of us so probably £30 a day on top of a supermarket shop and petrol. Enjoy!

thanks, lots of free stuff if the weather is ok. dont eat out although will have fish and chips a couple of times. maybe one visit to the oub as kids do love it. about £30 a day is what I am aiming at although wasnt sure if that was totally unrealistic.
