EDF

Morning all....it's not such a good one here...although the sun is shining. Grin

Just checked my bank account and EDF have taken £331.00 out, in addition to my usual direct debit of £96.00, as that is my current debit balance on the account after recent meter readings for gas and electricity.

I pay by dd on a monthly basis, always have with various suppliers and I dont think this has ever happened with previous suppliers, they have just adjusted dd amounts accordingly.

Am I right in thinking this is unusual?

I have only had EDF supplying our gas and electricity since last year so not sure.

Bloody EDF, ruining my morning!

They did the same thing to me 2 months ago.

Apparently the amount I was paying on my monthly plan was not enough to cover my bill and if the amount goes over £150 they take the whole lot.

It totally screwed up my month, I've switched suppliers now.

They told me they had written to me and told me, I did not get the letter. If its an estimated bill ring them up and give your actual reading and then switch supplier.

Did EDF not notify you of their intention to take the money? I can imagine that, over a certain threshold, they want to claw back the money owed and reset the clock so to speak. But surely they would have to notify you first. I'd have a look at the terms and conditions of your particular tariff.

I think this has happened to me once with British Gas, but years ago. I can't remember now whether I decided to clear the balance or whether they did.

Just spoken to them, as Tantrum says if it is over £150.00 they take the money in one shot!!

We have been away on hols, my first job the bank account, second the post and there, behold the letter advising of their intention to rob! Grin ....just as I thought we were back on track and had done a super saving shop at Aldi after really tightening the purse strings. Arghhh.

Another job, review energy supplier!

Thanks everyone. Smile

Oh - and watch out for EDF when you do change supplier. We pay by DD, and recently changed to another supplier. EDF sent us a final bill based on a ridiculously inflated 'estimated' reading, which is equivalent to 4 months what we pay on DD. We checked the meter and actually we don't owe them anything - they are just trying to rinse us before we jump ship by providing our new suppliers with a made-up reading. They've been our suppliers for three years so you'd think they'd have a fairly accurate picture of our normal usage!. And of course you can't sort it out via email as their response is 'thank you. We will look into this within 10 working days' - which of course is after the date they will have helped themselves to the money. Bastards!

Bastards indeed! Will ensure our supplier is changed within the next week.

Thanks again, enjoy the sunshine everyone.
