Child benefit question

McKayz · 11/07/2012 11:27

DH has recently started working for a company based in Singapore. He works abroad on a ship for 8 weeks and then home for 8 weeks.

I have 2 sons from my first marriage and our DD is 3 weeks old. I'm just sorting out the child benefit and it asks about working abroad.

Are we likely to lose child benefit because he works abroad?

Thanks

Is he classed as a British resident for tax purposes?

Yes he is.

Direct Gov Link The link gives a lot more information but I think, if he pays tax in the UK, the fact that he works offshore is irrelevant.

It doesn't matter at all where your husband works or where he is taxed - if the children are living with you in the UK, you are entitled to the benefit.
