SORN - can I still drive it to the MOT ?

Yes. You have to pre-book your MOT at your "local" garage (ie not necessarily the nearest one, but close to home, not 100 miles away).

We have this from the police themselves (have done it and will be doing it again!)

So no, but yes if its going to the garage It does say it might invalidate your insurance.

I phoned the police to ask this very same question about our car and was told that you must have an appointment at a garage for an MoT and you may only drive from your house directly to the garage for the appointment. No stopping off anywhere or taking a detour.
