Looking to transfer money to a couple of folk overseas. Has anyone used this Post Office arrangement which says it is fee free: www.postoffice.co.uk/finance/making-payments/post-office-international-payments?campaign=google_ip_brand&kw=post+office+money+transfer+xct&RMGPOPPC&campaignid=PPC_IP

I wont be transferring more than about £250 to £300.

My bank would charge me £25 plus weighted exchange rate.

Or are there any other good cheapish ways to do it?

Western Union is the traditional one but no idea how their fees compare with others.

I have used the Post Office many a time. It can take longer to get there than Western Union (would never use them) or a foreign payment from your bank but never had a problem with them at all.

You can look at 1st contact - you might need to set it up with them first, but they do an online money transfer - each transfer costs £10 and i think you get the 10th transfer free.
I have used them alot, find them reliable; and happy to keep using them. Their website should show you which countries they transfer to.

Just to give feedback. Used Post Office to transfer to Russia as Ist Contact dont do it - was good and there in 2 days (through a London bank). Used 1st Contact for France and also good -there in 2 days. 1st Contact cheaper for France - charged £5 fee but much better rate in Euros.

In summary both are good. Ist Contact doesnt do as many countries. Post Office dont charge fees but exchange rate is worse.
