Santander - "underfunding fee" WTF?

I am so angry. I have been gradually moving everything (wages/bills) over to Halifax reward account. Santander O/D paid off.

Child benefit still goes into that account, and I just move it out electronically. Paypal/Itunes still linked to Santander but that's about all.

Tonight I see new e-document - check statement and there's a £5 underfunding fee that's going to be taken from my account on 10th July. If I hadn't seen this I'd also get into O/D charges as there's usually about £3 in there.

I've heard it all now.

I've sent them a secure message asking why it's been incurred. Any else had any experience of this?

Obviously I'll sort out the last bits and close the account for good. My god I'm cross!

Do you have to pay a minimum (eg £1k) into your account per month? Check the t&cs. Santander have appaling cust service - get rid asap!

the 123 account requires £500pm. Is that your one? : www.santander-products.co.uk/banking/media/123.html?urlgen=y&exp=60&cm_mmc=123hpntgfs--hpntg--123ca-_-123hpntgfs

No - it's premier direct. It's just occurred to me that we get "free" travel insurance... I guess that's why we should be paying in a minimum amount.

I've had that account for years (when it was Alliance and Leicester).

What a crock of shit.

Im sorry - that one states theres a minimum too / premier account

They might refund as goodwill as its obvious you are moving, but I wouldnt count on it.

Thank-you.

I need to get my stuff moved pronto!

They doubled their overdraft fees without much notice, now this.

Argh! Damn banks!

But thank-you for advice and links. Much appreciated Thanks

I got caught out with this - and went in to overdraft (usually kept about 1p in the account, and hence charged again) - before noticing.
A bit of a rant to them got it all credited back though.
The A+L account required £500 a month to be paid in and that still works for the Santander version. I pay it in and move it out on the same day, but it got me a better savings interest rate (had to be a premier direct customer or something).

BigFatCushion · 20/06/2012 22:01

I've just had the message back from them confirming that this was indeed the case patsys

I have said I'm closing the account anyway. I should have done it ages ago. I've updated itunes, written to CB and am sorting out paypal.
