Letting agent fees. What is normal?

We're looking to move int a rented property having sold our current house and we're finding that the agent's initial 'admin' fees vary so much from agent to agent. Eg. one agent said it would be a one off £94 (plus deposit and rent etc) and another has said £165 + £65 each (DH and I) for references. This sounded like a lot to me but I've only ever bought houses not rented.
Can anyone tell me what sort of thing is normal. If it makes a difference, I'm in the south of england and in the country.

Im a bit surprised by pure admin fees, Surely the agent is paid by the people whose property it is. I didnt think they were supposed to charge the folk who were renting.
